Merle Bombardieri guest podcasts and radio / tv show appearances in 2023

By Merle Bombardieri, MSW, LICSW

At the microphone, the past few months were busy for me to spread the word about The Baby Decision and all of the life-changing topics that it covers.

Help Existing

Back on December 19, 2022, I discussed Part One of The Baby Decision on Rachel Krantz’ Help Existing podcast, which you can listen to here. Then on February 21, we followed up with Part Two, here. Because Rachel herself is in the middle of making a decision, she bravely decided to put herself on the hotseat for both episodes. She is leaning toward childfree, but also finds raising children attractive. You’ll love Rachel’s honesty and humor as we do some helpful exercises in the book. We even talk about what to do if you can’t bring yourself to do an exercise that you know would be good for you!

KPPC’s Air Talk

On February 1, I was an expert guest on Air Talk, on Los Angeles public radio station KPPC. In the 14-minute segment “Should I Have Kids? Why The Question Feels Much More Complicated For Today’s Young Adults,” I talked about decision-makers’ climate change concerns, and how millennials’ concerns are different from those of past generations. You can listen here—scroll past the first two segments to find it.

Healthier Together

In March, I had a long, lively conversation with Liz Moody on her popular podcast, Healthier Together. You can listen at your own pace here.

WUNC’s Embodied

And most recently on March 29, I was a guest on Embodied, a show produced by Chapel Hill, NC-based public radio station WUNC. I talked about childfree decision-making, after three childfree couples talked  about their decisions. The episode aired on April 14. You can listen here, or choose to read the show’s transcript.

Preconceived

No mention of podcasts would be complete without Preconceived, hosted by Zale Mednick. It was my first podcast ever on the topic, and I loved Zale’s interactive style. Preconceived has a unique theme—it invites experts to question and refute common assumptions that we make that are false. In the podcast, I challenged misconceptions about childfree people, the one-child family, and the belief that a good decision guarantees zero regret. You can hear that episode here.

I also wrote an essay for Zale’s book Preconceived: Challenging the Preconceptions in Our Lives, in which I refute the idea that you can’t choose parenthood if you’re 100% sure. In the book, I argue that ambivalence is normal, and I advise on handling regret about either choice. You can order Zale’s book here.
